Training & Human Performance Coordinator

The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA) , the largest airline pilot union in the world and the largest non-governmental aviation safety organization in the world (representing over 80,000 pilots at 43 U.S. and Canadian airlines) seeks an experienced Training & Human Performance Coordinator for our Tysons (McLean), Virginia office. As an integral member of the Engineering & Air Safety (E&AS) department, the Training & Human Performance Coordinator serves as the staff focal point for the Training and Human Performance policy areas. As such, they provide expertise and support and coordinate activities in the areas of human performance, training, human factors, and others, as assigned; and, provide liaison between the Association and various government, industry, trade, and professional organizations related to these disciplines. Functions will also include related activities associated with the development and harmonization of regulatory standards worldwide. They also work closely with the ALPA Air Safety Organization (ASO) and its associated groups, as well as the other technical groups and Master Executive Councils (MECs) within the ALPA structure.

Travel : Up to 20%; sporadically, travel, local and national, could be as much as 25% of the time.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required; or, the equivalent combination of human performance and training, education and experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of direct experience required in aviation safety, pilot training, human factors, and/or human performance.
  • Must have established professional contacts within the international and North American aviation community.
  • Thorough understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).
  • Pilot’s license with an instrument rating and experience operating various aircraft types desired.
  • Additional experience in aviation safety may be substituted for the licensing requirement.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written, for effective interaction with staff, pilot members, and external contacts.
  • Excellent organizational skills and practiced time management.
  • Former employment at airlines, the FAA, and/or industry segment in a relevant capacity extremely helpful.
  • Ability to learn quickly and seamlessly adapt to changing demands is extremely important.
  • Technical writing and presentation skills to communicate effectively with Association members and Officers, government and industry representatives and stakeholders, and staff.
  • Able to work independently and proactively identify and respond to issues and problems.
  • On a rotational basis, answers calls to the ALPA Worldwide Accident Hotline and the Pilot Peer Support line, including outside business hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Software: Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Constantly operates a computer/smartphone/tablet. Regularly required to maintain a stationary position; move about the office and the local metropolitan area; determine what others have said or written; and, converse with others and exchange accurate information.

Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, and move about the office and travel (locally, nationally, and internationally). May also include occasional bending, stooping, squatting, and/or pushing and pulling or moving, e.g., to pack, unpack, and/or move cases.

Occasionally required to move, raise, reach, and/or retrieve binders, books, boxes, and files up to ten (10) pounds (lbs.). While on travel, could be responsible to move, raise, reach, and/or retrieve luggage weighing as much as 50 lbs. (Assistance may not always be available.)

PROJECTED ANNUAL SALARY RANGE: $ 96,027.00 – $ 137,179.00
