Job Description

The Shop Heavy Equipment Mechanic in the Lafayette, LA area is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining heavy industrial construction equipment to include dozers, excavators, offroad haul trucks, material handlers and other construction equipment.

Must have hand tools for heavy machine mechanic work with company provided specialized tools.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.
  • Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance.
  • Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects.
  • Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Adjust, maintain, and repair or replace subassemblies, such as transmissions and crawler heads, using hand tools, jacks, and cranes.
  • Repair, rewire and troubleshoot electrical systems.
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
  • Examine parts for damage or excessive wear.
  • Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must provide own hand tools, however specialty tools will be provided by Rigid Constructors
  • Must pass Pre-Employment Drug Screen and Background Check
  • Must be authorized to work in US without sponsorship
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Able to work 40-70 hours per week
  • Post secondary certificate or degree as a mechanic preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience repair and maintenance on heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of proper operation of heavy equipment as well as safety standards
  • Ability to maintain, inspect, clean, and occasionally repair pieces of heavy equipment.
  • Keen attention to detail and situational awareness to maintain the safety of the work environment.
  • Strong work ethic and physical ability to lift 50+ pounds.
  • Proactive communicator
